CHRISTOPH MERTENS
Christoph Mertens nos lleva a la esencia de la materia a través de sus esculturas, investigaciones espaciales que transmiten un orden emocional y sensitivo.
Christoph Mertens explota todas sus fructíferas y contemporáneas posibilidades. Sus investigaciones espaciales con distintos materiales, que pudo poner en práctica en varios lugares de Berlín y otras localidades, son una ampliación extraordinariamente inteligente de una escultura “esencial".
El concepto de sus obras está basada en reglas auto condicionadas, sistemas, unas ordenaciones racionales las cuales están desarrollados a través de dibujos o/y sistemas numerosas, que le dirigen y limiten en el proceso de la obra, en la elección del material como en el objeto final. A un lado le reducen las posibilidades inmensas en el proceso del arte y al otro lado abren un mundo dentro de esta reducción.
Como crece un árbol , que ritmo tienen las ventanas de una calle, como es la distribución de vasos, platos, la comida en una mesa al momento de cenar, como es la tectónica de una figura, donde tendrá sus puntos de fuerza, donde están las partes del cuerpo relajado y finalmente que siente viendo estas cosas.
Le interesan las variaciones y el cambio en un objeto determinado en el momento de influir en el mismo.

Bio
Christoph Mertens nació en Berlin en 1966.
1986 - 1990 Se formó y trabajo como escultor en piedra / cantero en Berlin 1991 - 1996 Estudió Bellas Artes y Escultura en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Berlin (Kunsthochschule Berlin - Weißensee) con el Prof. Berndt Wilde. En 1993 participó en el Simposio “Nordland”.
Estudió en la Facultad de B.B.A.A. de Salamanca como becario de Erasmus en 1994 y obtuvo el Premio del Concurso de proyectos públicos, con la instalación de la escultura “Unidad Divisible”.
En 1995 Participó en la "Trobada internacional d´Escultores de Calaf/ España” y en 1996 en el Symposio “Dialoge” de Stralsund / Alemania.
Se diploma de Bellas Artes con distinción y cursó su Master en 1997
Ha sido becario NaFög de la diputación de Berlin, docencia de Escultura en la Kunsthochschule Berlin - Weißensee, asistente del Prof. Berndt Wilde y fue becado en Barcelona a través del DAAD.
Actualmente vive y trabaja en Berlin y Barcelona

Christoph Mertens takes us to the essence of the matter through his sculptures, special investigations which transmit an emotional and sensitive order. Christoph Mertens explodes fruitful and all contemporary possibilities. His special studies with different materials, which could be implemented in several locations in Berlin and other locations, are an extremely intelligent extension of an "essential" sculpture.
The concept of his work is based on auto conditioned rules, systems, a rational orderings which are developed through drawings and / or numerous systems which direct and limit the process of the work, the choice of material and the final object. On one side will reduce the immense possibilities in the process of art and across open a world within this reduction.

Christoph Mertens was born in Berlin in 1966.
1986 - 1990 He trained and worked as a sculptor in stone / stonemason in Berlin
1991 - 1996 He studied Fine Arts and Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Berlin (Kunsthochschule Berlin - Weissensee) with Prof. Berndt Wilde. In 1993 he participated in the "Nordland" Symposium
He studied at the Faculty of B.B.A.A. Salamanca as scholar Erasmus in 1994 and won the Prize Competition for public projects, the installation of the sculpture "Unidad Divisible” In 1995 he participated in the "Trobada internacional d´Escultores de Calaf/ España” and in 1996 in the Symposium "Dialoge" Stralsund /Germany
He graduated in Fine Arts with distinction and received his Master in 1997
He has been a fellow of the deputation of NaFög Berlin, teaching sculpture at the Kunsthochschule Berlin - Weissensee, Assistant of Prof. Berndt Wilde and was awarded a scholarship in Barcelona through the DAAD.

En esta exposición Julia presenta nuevas instalaciones realizadas In Situ e inspiradas por el trabajo de Christoph Mertens; y por otra parte una serie de dibujos animados en .gif visibles desde internet.
La instalación "G. crucificado" interpreta un tema clásico del arte y de la cultura judío-cristiana trabajando según su proceso de clavos e hilos, y con una dramática caída de pintura añadiendo plasticidad a la figura religiosa.
Una doble instalación en espejo de uno de los retratos de la serie Sleepers y una esfera de pintura que les une y recuerda los Nimbus redondos usados desde la antigüedad egipcia para representar a los difuntos. Este nimbus y su aspecto simétrico crean un diálogo con las esculturas esféricas de Christoph Mertens.
La tercer instalación, retratos de mujeres provienen de la serie Missing Women que representan las mujeres que faltan en el mundo por la selección antinatural en algunos países como China o India, donde las mujeres abortan cuando se trata de una niña. El premio Nobel Amarta Syen fue el primero en hablar de este fenómeno. En estos retratos con varias capas de hilos se entrelazan otras figuras triangulares con hilos de otro color, que dibuja usando los mismos clavos, como recordatorio a las facetas de las esculturas de Mertens creando un dialogo entre sus realizaciones, y dando otra lectura de las estructuras que le permiten realizar los retratos. Estas lineas aportan una dimensión plástica, dinámica y abstracta a la serie Missing Women.
Después de descubrir el trabajo de Christoph Mertens, y utilizando algunos dibujos originales de la serie Missing Women nunca mostrados, comenzó a reflexionar sobre la posible fusión entre representaciones figurativas y abstractas a través del movimiento.
Bio
Julia nació en 1986 en Paris. En 2004 comenzó sus estudios en la escuela de arte Les Ateliers de Sèvres en Paris, y el año siguiente fue aceptada para entrar en la universidad de la Sorbonne para estudiar Bellas Artes.
Terminó su carrera en 2011 con un doble Master de Artes plásticas. En 2008 empezó a exponer su trabajo y en marzo 2010 ganó el premio del festival Ici et Demain y expuso su trabajo en el Point Ephémère, prestigioso centro de arte contemporáneo de Paris. En mayo 2012 ganó el premio "Jeune Talent" - Joven Talento - del proyecto Horizons Art - Nature y realizó una instalación a gran escala en el acantilado de un volcán en el centro de Francia, este mismo año realizó también su primer exposición en un museo, el MARQ de Clermont-Ferrand. Desde septiembre 2012 vive en Barcelona, y desde entonces expuso su trabajo en distintos lugares como la galería La Pan, la galería Hartmann-LaSanta, la galería Visible o el centro de arte Mutuo. Este octubre pasado ganó el premio del festival WeArt 2013.

In this exhibition Julia presents new installations realized In Situ and inspired by the work of Christoph Mertens; and on the other a series of animation in gifs visible from internet.The installation "G. crucificado” interprets a classic subject of Jewish-Christian art and culture working according to her process of thread and nails, and a dramatic drop of paint adding a plasticity to the religious figure.
A double mirror installation in one of the portraits of the Sleepers series and a paint sphere that unites them and reminds a round Nimbus used since ancient Egyptian times to represent the deceased. This nimbus and it's symmetrical appearance nimbus and create a dialogue with the spherical sculptures of Christoph Mertens.
The third installation, portraits of women which comes from the Missing Women series representing missing women in the world by the unnatural selection in some countries like China or India, where women have abortions at a girl age. The Nobel prize winner Amarta Syen was the first to talk about this phenomenon. In these portraits with several layers of wire intertwine other triangular shapes with different color yarns, which form using the same nails as a reminder to those facets of the sculptures of Mertens creating a dialogue between within his realizations and giving another reading to the structures that allows you to make portraits. These lines provide a plastic, dynamic and abstract dimension to the Missing Women series.
After discovering the work of Christoph Mertens, and using some original drawings from the Missing Women series which were never shown, she began to reflect on the possible fusion between figurative and abstract representations through movement.
Bio
Julia was born in 1986 in Paris. In 2004 she began her studies in ar school Les Ateliers de Sèvres in Paris, and the following year she was accepted to enter the Sorbonne University to study Fine Arts. She finished her studies in 2011 with a double Master of Visual Arts. In 2008 she began to exhibit her works and in March 2010 she won the prize of the festival Ici et Demain and exhibited her work at the Point Ephémère, prestigious contemporary art center of Paris. In May 2012, won the "Jeune Talent” award - Young Talent - the Horizons Art - Nature Project and conducted a large-scale installation on the cliff of a volcano in central France, and the same year she also made her first museum exhibition the MARQ Clermont-Ferrand.
From September 2012 she lives in Barcelona, and has since exhibited her work in various locations such as the La Pan, the Hartmann-LASANTA gallery, the Visible gallery or art center Mutuo. This last October she won the Weart Festival 2013.
